Why should you learn to take your own Knife and Gun photographs? |
I'm angry. I get calls everyday from clients and makers who are not happy with the photography they are getting of their knives and guns. Or, if the photos aren't bad then the service was terrible.
While it is true that you can pay to get your knives photographed, it can get real expensive. I believe you should have a photograph of every knife or gun you make or work on. And you should have a photo of every knife or gun you own.
How would you like to know how to do it yourself? Yes, you! Keep reading and you will find out how you can learn the secrets.
It's very easy to learn and you can do it in your home or office with minimal equipment (if you know exactly what to do). You probably already have a good camera. I will show you how you can use it to save yourself hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
Let me help. You will discover the most advanced ideas, "clever little" tricks, and key techniques for successful knife and gun photography used today by the top people in the field. Find out how you can do it and do it easy!

| Here is what a knife
photograph looks like with the proper techinques. Notice the blades and the detail. You can do this! |
I have tried every technique; the conventional, the unconventional... the complicated and the simple.
The best thing, I have taught lots of people to do it too. I have had hundreds of my photographs printed in every major knife publication. The bottom line is... I know my stuff!
As a successful photographer and teacher, I can guarantee you that you will learn how to do it, easily.
Now, don't get me wrong. There are several professional photographers that can take photos for you. But it will cost you $50, $75, $100 or more for each knife or gun to be photographed. Why shouldn't you do it yourself. If you make 20 knives a year and get a photograph of each one that would run you over $1,500. Or your could do it yourself and save that money!
So are those photographers ripping you off? Of course not. You are paying for their time and talent. They should be paid for their knowledge, just like you. But you can learn to do it and save that money.
Why else should you take your own photographs besides saving money?
You Save Time (photograph it in the morning and ship the knife that afternoon
You should document every Knife you make
More control (you don't have to try and explain exactly what you want)
Inexpensive reprints (I guess that could save you hundreds of dollars too!)
No 'Lost in Shipping' worries! (we don't even want to think about that)

You Can Make Photographs Like These! Easily! I Will Show You How!
![]() |
One of the first questions you may be asking, "Do I need a professional camera?"
No, of course not. You can use a simple 35mm camera. A point and shoot could work but a single lens reflex (SLR) or digital camera works best. You can find a used camera for less than $200. I'll tell you where. You probably already have one that will work.
"What about lighting?"
This is the biggest problem. How would you like to know that you can even use window light. Yes, window light. I can show you how to use "hot lights" A set up you can buy for about $100.
"Can I use these photos for the magazine?"
Absolutely! Send them to all the magazines, send them to clients, even put them on your web site! These will be as good as a professional photographers image.
I want you to concentrate your time making and marketing your knives, not worrying if your knives are being photographed right. Or if they will be back in time to ship to your client.
Here is what I want you to be able to do: You finish your knife right on time, (OK, a few days late - but it's done) It looks perfect. It's a new design or handle material for you. You really should get a photo of this! But you don't have time to send it off for photos. This is a good client and wants the knife tomorrow! NO PROBLEM! Go in your office. Place the knife in the specially designed lighting box, turn the lights on. Make a couple of exposures, call Fed Ex, your client gets their knife on time and you get great photos.
This will affect the way you do your business. Why? Because of the Web. Current projections say there will be over 250 million Internet users in less than four years, and one billion users in less than eight. Almost every new computer sold comes with Internet access, and other new products that connect every home TV to the Internet. . As you may already know, more people every day are using the web for making their buying decisions.
If you don't have a presence on the web, you will be left behind.
Most of you know that. But you may not realize that great photographs will make your web site great. When your prospective client gets on the web and looks at your site and your competition's site, there needs to be a difference. Now you can. You will now be able to show all the different knives you have made. How? You photographed every knife you made. It's essential that you stand above the rest. And a "small guy" can do it.
As much as some won't like to admit it, a business lives or dies on its marketing; on getting the word out. If the business doesn't have the budget, every marketing dollar must do the work of two. You must use innovative and conventional techniques to market your product to be successful.
You know what kind of dollars it takes to advertise in the magazines? You could spend hundreds of dollars PER MONTH and probably only show only a couple of different photos. But on your web site, you can show dozens of photos.
You have to sell a lot of knives to make up that kind of advertising cost. And that's not to mention that you have to get that ad to the magazine at least a month before the publication date, and you don't even see your results until 30 days after the magazine is published. That's 2 months without any income .
On the net you can test what works in a matter of days... and all for peanuts. Where else can you place an ad and have orders rolling in (or not) 24 hours later?
How much will you need to start taking your own photographs? The truth is that you can start it for under $100, but this means you will buy a used camera and use window light. So this will be a slower process, you will have to shoot only during the day. For about $300.00 you can be up and running with good used camera and set of lights. This will give you professional results. There is no reason to spend thousands of dollars (like many people do). I can show you ways to do it yourself. Quick, easy and ridiculously cheap.
For every $100 you spend on your on photo set up,
I will show you how to save $1000 or more in not having to pay a professional photographer for your photos.
Usually someone will say "Yeah, I tried to take my own knife photographs and they were terrible." That is because, you did not know the secrets. I will show you, no, spoon feed you the proven ways of taking your own photos so you are guaranteed to save money and get great photos.
I know all the insider techniques: how to use lighting the right way, how to work with a local lab to get professional results, how to get great photos every time.
Learning from the best
Talk about learning from the best... I have had hundreds of photographs published! Some of the best knife makers in the country have hired me to photograph their knives. Now I will show you how.
No one else will tell you how to do this.
The tips, strategies and secrets mentioned above are the most effective techniques you can put to use immediately. You will learn the easiest, fastest and most effective techniques; and which to use when. I will show you, step-by-step, how to make great photos. Whether you are a knife maker, engraver, schrimshander, gun smith or collector.
No nonsense, no technobabble, and plenty of examples. You don't need to be a technical whiz. You don't need any special experience to go immediately from rank beginner to a knife or gun photographer. I cut through the fog and show you what it really takes to make great photographs. Almost anyone can easily duplicate this success. Once my secret lighting system has been set up, there is nothing left to do. I will share all the details of this extremely easy system.
I will guarantee you will start turning out great photos after you study my techniques and secrets. No ifs, ands, or buts. Be prepared to spend a few hours setting everything up and testing your lights. Once you are setup, it's almost automatic.
